Cotton Percale the next bed revolution

Cotton Percale and your pets

Cotton Percale vs. Sateen and Egyptian Cotton? Have you ever wondered what the difference is and why pet owners should choose percale for their bedding?

In this blog we look at all the differences and the benefits cotton percale have over their traditional counterparts.

Facts about cottons

Cotton is one of the most popular fabrics used in the production of sheets and bedding, with a wide variety of available options.

Among these options are cotton percale, sateen, and Egyptian cotton. While all of these fabrics have their unique qualities and benefits, cotton percale is the better choice for households with cats or other animals.

Percale is a plain weave fabric made with a balanced and closely woven thread count. The thread count of percale is typically between 200 and 400, which means there are an equal number of vertical and horizontal threads woven into the fabric. This results in a strong and durable material that is resistant to pilling and snagging, making it an excellent choice for households with pets.

In contrast, sateen is a fabric made with a satin weave. This means that the fabric has more vertical threads than horizontal threads, resulting in a smoother and more luxurious feel. However, this also means that the fabric is more prone to snagging and pilling, which can be problematic for households with pets that like to scratch or chew on fabrics.

Egyptian cotton is a type of cotton that is grown in Egypt and is known for its long, high-quality fibres. This results in a softer and more durable fabric that is often considered the ultimate luxury bedding material. However, Egyptian cotton can also be more prone to snagging and pilling, which can be problematic for households with pets.

Cotton Percale the next bed revolution

One of the main benefits of cotton percale for pet owners is its durability. The tightly woven fabric is less likely to snag or pill, even with frequent use and washing. This means that your sheets and bedding will last longer and look better for a longer period of time, even with pets that like to scratch or chew on fabrics.

Another benefit of cotton percale for pet owners is its breathability. Percale is a lightweight and breathable fabric that allows air to circulate, helping to regulate body temperature and prevent overheating. This can be particularly beneficial for pets that like to sleep on or under the covers, as it can help keep them comfortable and cool throughout the night.

In addition, cotton percale is easy to clean and maintain. It can be machine washed and dried, making it a convenient choice for busy pet owners. The durable fabric can withstand frequent washing without losing its shape or texture, ensuring that your sheets and bedding stay looking and feeling great.

The Georgie-Boy test

While sateen and Egyptian cotton may be more luxurious and soft to the touch, they are not the best choice for households with pets and kids. As a Cat and Dog owner I have experienced this with my furry kids, Mia and Georgie-Boy.

I once bought Egyptian cotton for all the beds in my house and big was my embarrassment when guests arrived and there were tiny holes in the bedding! Mia and Georgie-Boy loved the luxurious linen so much that they could not stop “touching” it.

This was a never ending cycle until I have learnt about, and experienced Cotton Percale. I have no fear of Georgie-Boy, or other pets, and my Percale has been lasting for the last 5 years. I wash them twice a week as I love clean linen and the ease of it is amazing.

You can choose an ironed or a creased look and they both look very good. Cotton percale also gets softer after each wash and is a lovely fabric for kids as it is easy to wash.

Eco Friendly

Cotton percale is a natural and eco-friendly choice. Unlike synthetic fabrics, which can be harmful to the environment, cotton is a renewable resource that is biodegradable and compostable. This makes it a more sustainable choice for families who are concerned about the impact of their purchases on the environment.

While sateen and Egyptian cotton may be popular choices for bedding and clothing, the heavier weight of these fabrics can make them less breathable and uncomfortable for pets and people when sleeping.

Cotton percale has several advantages, especially when it comes to pets, children, the young and more mature people. Its durability, breathability, affordability, easy care, and eco-friendliness make it a great choice for families who are looking for a practical and sustainable option. So, if you’re in the market for new bedding or clothing, consider cotton percale for a comfortable, practical, and eco-friendly choice.
